The main areas of activity of the National Space Institute are research, research-based services and products and national coordination of space activities in Denmark. DTU Space conducts research in astrophysics, solar system physics, geodesy, Earth observation (methods and instrumentation) and space technology.
The research done at the DNSC forms the basis for a variety of services and products which are offered to Danish industry, authorities and educational institutions - e.g. technology transfer, advice on space-related matters and supervision of PhD students. DTU Space is heading the Danish Space Consortium which consists of all major space-related institutions and companies in Denmark. The Consortium advises the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation on Danish space policy - also with regard to the Danish membership of the European Space Agency. DTU Space is hosting the secretariat of the Consortium and is the national contact point for the Danish space sector.
