Areas of expertise

Stochastic Control Theory
Kalman filtering and state estimation
System identification and parameter estimation
Fautl diagnosis and fault detection
Modelling and control of wind turbines and parks

Niels Kjølstad Poulsen works with modelling and control of dynamic systems involving stochastic disturbances and other types of uncertainty. A very important aspect is system identification in which the system parameters are estimated from experimental data. The optimal control of a dynamic system takes the uncertainty and the constraints into account. Often the control will be based on an estimate of the system state (e.g. with a Kalman filter). State and parameter estimation have its ovn relevance in connection to e.g. navigation and fault diagnosis. Niels Kjølstad Poulse has a broad application area including modelling and control of wind turbines and their integration in the energy production. Another important application area is robotics and especially autonous vehicles.
