Choosing Courses

To spend a semester or two at DTU within the framework of Erasmus or a bilateral agreement there are two options:

  1. Coursework
Coursework consists of selecting a group of courses that meets your own interests and the requirements of your home institution. See our course catalogue for courses in English. You can also search the catalogue by department. You sign up for these courses when course registration begins. Note that you cannot register for a course until you have received your DTU acceptance letter. Please note that there is no guarantee for participation in the courses you have registered for. If a course is overbooked (too many students sign up), full degree students have first priority.
At BSc or MSc level, the maximum number of courses you can sign up for per semester is seven 5-credit courses. 60 credits constitute a full academic year. The ECTS point system (European Credit Transfer System) is fully compatible with the DTU credit system.

You can revise your choice of courses after arrival. Note that your course registration also registers you for the final examination. However, you may cancel your exam registration up until two weeks before the start date of the examination period.

Be aware that it is your own responsibility to check that you have the necessary prerequisites for the courses that you sign up for.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact International Affairs.

  1. Project Work
If you wish to do project work, we advise you to check out the pages of the relevant departments at DTU and find out what they have to offer. Or you could look up a relevant professor and send a proposal including your CV, transcript and a description of the subject/project that interests you. The professor may demand that you complete certain courses before starting a project. If the professor does not respond to your e-mail/fax/letter, contact the Head of Department. Sometimes it helps to contact a professor at your own university who is in regular touch with the DTU professor you want to contact.

Practicalities

To attend a course, you must be present at DTU at the beginning of the semester. If you are not, your place on the course will go to someone else. Exceptions can only be made by arrangement with the relevant professors.
