A PhD student is under the obligation to deliver the study-effort described in the study plan. In addition to this, the PhD student must carry out work tasks for the department according to the instructions of the department to an extent corresponding to 840 hours of work during the employment of 3 years.
Holiday with pay is granted according to the Holiday Act. For further information about the rights and duties of PhD students, please see appendix 5 concerning PhD scholarship holders in the circular on collective agreement for academic staff working for the state.
Without offering any reason, the PhD student can choose to complete the studies working part-time (three quarters of full-time) if in agreement with the principal supervisor who must ensure the approval of the department. The period of study will then extend to four years and the salary will be adjusted accordingly.
Other paid occupation
DTU’s general rules for other paid occupation apply. Accordingly, the principal supervisor must always be consulted. In order to ensure that the PhD studies can be completed within the set deadline and at a high scientific level, the head of the PhD school must approve all dual employment.
For current pay rates, see Salary Paid to PhD Students.
