Every six months, the principal supervisor must evaluate whether the PhD studies are progressing satisfactorily. Documented illness and leaves of absence, including maternity leave, are also to be considered in the evaluation.
The half-year report is signed by the head of the PhD school, the principal advisor and the PhD student.
The report must contain a signed confirmation that the studies are proceeding to satisfaction and according to the study plan (approval of an altered study plan may be enclosed).
The report must be submitted to the PhD School (department) who forwards a copy to the PhD administration office. To ensure that the PhD administration receives all the relevant information, you must use the form "half-year report". Download the form via the link on the right side of this page.
If the PhD studies are not proceeding satisfactorily, the student must be offered - but only once - the opportunity to rectify the situation within a time limit of three months. The student has a respite of reply of at least two weeks. Should the student decline the offer, his/her enrolment in the PhD school will be cancelled as of the end of the month. If the student accepts the offer, a new evaluation must be made within one month after the three-month period has expired. If this evaluation is negative, enrolment is cancelled. The decision is final and cannot be protested. Ordinary industrial regulations apply to DTU employees.
Please note that the first half-year report is due already four and a half months from commencement of the study programme.
