DTU is a relatively small and specialized university of high standards hosting 6,000 students of which more than 700 are from abroad. With approximately 1,500 employees involved in research and teaching DTU has a remarkable low ratio of students per researcher. This low student/researcher ratio facilitates close relations and informal discussions between students and teachers. In 2008, 1,351 students graduated from the DTU study programs. With more than 800 PhD students DTU is truly a graduate university focusing mainly on research based education.
