Objective of course: To impart knowledge of some interesting telecommunication systems through `learning-on the-job’. To introduce students to DTU and demonstrate project-based teaching.
Contents: The course starts with an introduction to DTU and DTU Photonics. The emphasis is on aspects of the course relevant for future guest and MSc students. DTU Photonics' research facilities are also presented.
The course comprises two projects, each involving six days of work and concluding with the submission of a final report. The projects are in areas in which DTU enjoys international renown. They are likely to include:
– Experiments with lasers and optics for optical communication
– Wireless over fibre
– Modelling and simulation of a communication network
– Video coding
Prerequisite qualifications: The summer course is intended for students around the mid-point of a five-year course in electronics, telecommunication or computer-engineering. The principal selection criteria will be knowledge of telecommunication and knowledge of written and oral English.

Evaluation: The two reports are evaluated. If both are approved, this constitutes a pass. Assessment: Approved/Not Approved.

Price
There is no tuition fee, but a cost for accommodation of €300. Tuition fee for students outside EU/EEA from non-partner universities: €400 per week.
