The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CFB) at DTU invites applications for a number of positions as Laboratory Technician (Laborant) for its CHO production cell line development research project. DTU Biosustain is an international research center of excellence developing next generation cell factories and bioprocesses for sustainable production of high-value chemical compounds as well as protein-based products.

The center uses advanced metabolic engineering techniques and computational biology ensuring efficient and cost-effective design and construction processes. The center’s activities are a balanced mix of basic and translational research, complemented by an emphasis on business development to facilitate commercialization of new cell factories and associated technologies.

DTU Biosustain offers state-of-the-art research facilities and assembles world leaders in the field thus, offering a unique platform providing excellent talent development and career opportunities. More recently, the CFB has expanded its activities to comprise genome-scale science for CHO cell line engineering for improved bioprocessing and production of therapeutic proteins.

Primary areas of responsibility
The Laboratory Technicians will report to the Director CHO Cell Line Development and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the smooth operation of the protein chemistry facilities, i.e., Äkta Pure cleaning and general maintenance
  • Participation in the process of planning experiments
  • Purification of recombinantly expressed proteins in low, medium and high throughput format using different chromatography techniques
  • Laboratory work within the field of protein characterization procedures, e.g., activity assays or protein-protein interaction
  • Sample preparation for glycomics and proteomics analysis
  • Handling and reporting of experimental data in Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) and LIMS systems
  • Participation in the general operation and maintenance of the laboratory stocks, facilities and other equipment
  • Carrying out other duties that may be associated to the position, and may be required from time to time
Our expectations of you
The ideal candidate has:
  • A Laboratory Technician degree
  • Previous experience from  working in an environment with recombinant protein production
  • Hands-on experience with purification and characterization of recombinantly expressed proteins
  • Experience in protein expression from mammalian cells will be considered an advantage
  • Experience in working in a medium/high throughput environment
  • Computer software proficiency (Word and Excel)
  • Experience with reporting in ELN and/or LIMS systems
  • Good communication skills in English both orally and written
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, responsibility, team spirit and excellent collaboration skills

Salary and appointment terms
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the OAO-S joint agreement and association agreement for office workers, laboratory technicians and IT staff (HK/Stat) signed with the Danish Ministry of Finance.
