The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Technical University of Denmark (DTU) conducts scientific research on a very high international level within the field of design and optimization of power systems, based on the organic Rankine cycle as well as other cycles. Numerical as well as experimental analyses are conducted, spanning from the component and working fluid design/selection to the cycle optimization. Typical the projects are carried out in close cooperation with other industrial and academic partners. Overall, the results are expected to enable the design of more efficient power generation systems and increased use of renewable energy sources.

The position as researcher is a permanent entry-level position.

Responsibilities and tasks
The candidate will conduct scientific research in projects together with industrial and academic partners in the field of power generation systems. The focus of the work will be on the selection of working fluids, including the prediction of their properties, for organic Rankine cycle units and other power generation systems. It is expected that the candidate enters into close collaboration with industrial partners with the aim of promoting the results of the research into industrial applications. The research should be at a high international level and should be published in relevant journals and at conferences.

We expect the candidate to develop the research field and actively participate in development of research projects. Exploitation of possibilities for innovation is expected within the research field.

The candidate will participate in the teaching of engineering students at all levels, with focus on supervision of projects in fields related to the research position.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). 

The candidate is expected to have 

  • experience of employment as a postdoctoral researcher and a solid scientific publication record
  • experience in collaboration with international and national partners in academia and industry
  • experience in supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students
  • experience of experimental work
  • experience in numerical modelling of thermal energy systems, including organic Rankine cycle power systems
  • experience of methods for the prediction of properties of fluids
  • self-motivation in scientific research
  • ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks
  • very good communication skills in English, both written and spoken

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The position as researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU
