Research areas

The research areas of the group are:

Tomas Bohr  Complex fluid flows, free surfaces and instabilities. Circular and polygonal hydraulic jumps in spreading fluid flows. Sand ripples and sand dunes under water. Bathtub vortices with strongly deformed free surfaces and other rotating flows. Time-dependent separation and vortex shedding. Transition to space time chaos in deterministic and stochastic models. Localized structures and intermittency in fully developed turbulence.

Olga Sosnovtseva

Bifurcation analysis and chaos theory. Application of nonlinear dynamics to physical, technical and biological systems. Coupled nonlinear oscillators. Chaotic synchronization: riddled basins of attraction, on-off intermittency, clustering, and chaotic phase synchronization. Object oriented dynamical systems analysis. Interval analysis applied to dynamical systems. Border-collision bifurcations in non-smooth systems.

Kirstine Berg Sørensen

Systems biology and nonlinear dynamics. Physiological modelling: nephron autoregulation and nephron-nephron interaction. Biological cell models: pancreatic alpha and beta cells, smooth muscle cells, nerve cells. Component based spatially extended cell modeling. Pattern formation in reaction-diffusion systems. Biosimulation in drug development. New approaches to nonlinear time-series analysis.
Mogens Samuelsen Phase locking of fluxon motion in Josephson junctions to external ac fields. Coupling between Josephson junctions. Suppression of period doubling (chaos) by half harmonic ac fields. In all cases the effect of stochastic forces (thermal noise) is investigated.
