We are currently seeking applicants for the following positions:
- Research Assistant
A 2½-year position as research assistant is available at Centre of Electric Engineering -15 hours a week. We expect you to start as soon as possible. One of the main challenges in future power systems is the integration of large amounts of electricity from fluctuating renewable energy sources by activation of flexible consumer demand, e.g. electric vehicles (EVs). Such smart grid solutions combining flexible demand side units with the necessary communication and grid control solutions can balance the system by increasing power consumption in high wind periods and decrease power consumption in low wind periods. Several ongoing projects have already started with the purpose of meeting the challenge, such as iPower project, Edison project, FlexPower project, and the EcoGrid project. The purpose of this job is to develop control strategies for such distribution networks which combine direct control strategies with indirect market based strategies and simulate and test these control polices on a power system model. Application deadline: 16 September 2011 Further information
- PhD scholarship in Optimal Operation of Electric Distribution Networks with Electrification of Transport and Heating in Nordic Region
A 3-year PhD scholarship is available at Centre for Electric Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering, for appointment as soon as possible. The PhD project is funded by norden, Nordic Energy Research. Project Description This PhD project will investigate the impact and potential of electrification of transport and part of the heating sector. Driving data will be collected from statistical authorities and pilot projects to obtain driving pattern which will be used to assess different charging options. Typical distribution grids from the Nordic area will be used to develop intelligent EV charging schedule algorithms considering local grid constraints. The existing heat pump (HP) demand model will be used to investigate the demand profile and flexibility of HPs which will be inputs to improve the intelligent schedule algorithms. The feasibility of combining the schedule management and ancillary service provision will be investigated using the prognosis of ancillary service prices. Further description of the NORSTRAT project can be obtained here. Application deadline: 30 September 2011. Further information
