On 29 September 2004 Eltra (the present Energinet.dk) and the Technical University of Denmark signed an agreement about Centre for Electric Technology with the purpose is to strengthen research and education within electric technology. The agreement implied that Energinet.dk support the new Centre for Electric Technology with DKK 2 million a year for a period of at least five years.
The centre was started 1 February 2005 and a festive inauguration was held 13 April 2005 with approximately 200 participants from industry and universities.
On 11 April 2008 two new centre agreements was established with Dong Energy and Siemens Wind Power. The signing took place during CET’s three year birthday celebration with participation of the Minister of Energy and Climate Connie Hedegaard.
