Last night EcoGrid EU won the prestigious EU Sustainable Energy Award 2016 as the best energy project with consumers in Europe. The project won after rigorous review of nearly 200 energy projects across EU.

Aaaaand the winner is... EcoGrid EU!

Last night Østkraft and its partners could be very happy and proud as the EcoGrid EU project won the Consumers Prize in Belgium at the EUSEW Awards 2016. The EcoGrid EU project is an energy-market concept empowering households to manage renewables and its competition in the category was Coopérnico (Portugal) and Test-Achats (Belgium).

“We are very proud to win this award. We’re a small island and the prize is for the entire community of Bornholm who want to be carbon neutral by 2025,” said the EcoGrid EU project spokesperson. In 2017, all power on the island will be generated by renewable sources, it says on the EUSEW homepage.

The project is currently continued as EcoGrid 2.0 funded by EUDP. Center for Electric Power and Energy at DTU Elektro has been a key partner in the project, including being responsible for the technical concept and energy market structure.
