Festive welcome to Danish Shellfish Centre

Marine research
Danish Shellfish Centre has become part of DTU, which was celebrated with a large inauguration ceremony at the centre's address in Nykøbing Mors.

Danish summer was at its best with sunshine and a light wind, when the Danish Shellfish Centre opened its doors on Tuesday, June 17 2014 to celebrate that the centre is now a part of DTU.

The weather was essential for completing all the festivities, as they also included a boat trip to the centre's activities on the Liim Fiord, which was only possible in good weather.

DTU Aqua and Danish Shellfish Centre have carried out research in partnership for several years into shellfishing and shellfish rearing, and the integration of the centre brings together a large part of Danish expertise within the field of shellfish and seaweed at DTU.

The event was attended by, amongst others, DTU President Anders Bjarklev and the Mayor of the Municipality of Morsø, Ejnar Berthelsen.

President Anders Bjarklev welcomed the Danish Shellfish Centre to the 'DTU family' that is looking forward to expanding the research-related and commercial potential within the field of shellfish. The Danish Shellfish Centre has 15 employees and extensive experimental facilities for conducting research into sustainable shellfishing and shellfish rearing, seaweed farming as well as fiord ecology. The centre also has a number of communication activities, e.g. visits by tourists and teaching.
