Italien delegation, M5S, visits PowerLabDK

Members of the Italian Parliament visits PowerLabDK

Tuesday 28 March a delegation from Italians second largest political party, Movimento 5 Stella (M5S), visited PowerLabDK. Interesting discussions on how to integrate existing energy systems as well as a live streamed video reaching more than 160.000 viewers in just one day were among the results.

A delegation from the Italian political party Movimento 5 Stella (M5S) paid a visit to PowerLabDK at DTU Elektro, Center for Electric Power and Energy (CEE) as part of their trip to Copenhagen this week. The purpose of the visit was to get an introduction to how we do things in Denmark when it comes to sustainable energy.

Before coming to DTU the delegation visited Morten Kabell, Mayor of Technical and Environmental Affairs and was presented to the project EnergyLab Nordhavn on top of By & Havns P-hus Lüders in Nordhavn.

The meeting took place in PowerLabDK where Marianne Thellersen, Senior Vice President, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, DTU welcomed the group. Following a short introduction to DTU, Per Nørgård, Senior Development Engineer at CEE explained how PowerLabDK as an experimental platform for electric power and energy contribute to the development of a reliable, cost efficient and sustainable energy system based on renewable energy sources.

"It is when we start combining and not least integrating all existing energy systems that we can make a difference. The focus should be on collaboration, flexibility and resilience."
Per Nørgård

Best practice in sustainability and energy efficiency

The delegation from Italy is only one of many visitors that PowerLabDK welcomes. The delegation from M5S includes both members of the Italian Parliament and the European Parliament. Visiting Copenhagen is part of their preparation for introducing a political proposal regarding sustainable energy solutions to the Italian Parliament. More precisely, they are looking for best practice within energy and environment.

As part of the tour of PowerLabDK the delegation was introduced to the Electrical Vehicle Lab. The discussion was mostly centered on how electrical vehicles can be integrated in the power systems as well as the charging infrastructure.

The delegation was very interested in learning about where to focus future energy investments. The answer from Per Nørgård was very clear.

“It is not individual technologies like wind power, solar panels or electrical transportation that alone will change the world. It is when we start combining and not least integrating all existing energy systems that we can make a difference. The focus should be on collaboration, flexibility and resilience”, Per Nørgård explained.

Following the presentation Luigi Di Maio who is Vice President for the Italian Chamber of Deputies live streamed via his Facebook site from PowerLabDK. In less than 24 hours the video has had more than 160.000 viewings. Watch the video here.
