New head of DTU Compute

Professor in Statistics Per Bruun Brockhoff, 52 years old, has been appointed new head of DTU Compute. He comes from the department’s Statistics and Data Analysis section and takes up his position as new Head of Department on 1 May.

Per Bruun Brockhoff joined DTU in 2004 as Professor with Special Assignments (MSO) and was given a permanent professorship in statistics in 2009. In the period from 2008-2012, he was Head of the DTU Compute’s Section for Statistics, and he has 25 years of experience from the university and corporate sectors.

DTU Provost, Rasmus Larsen, on the appointment:

Per is an internationally recognized researcher in statistics and data science, and with his background as a lecturer in basic statistics for all engineering disciplines and a pioneer within digital learning technologies, we can expect him to play a significant and active role in the future development of the engineering profession.”

Per Bruun Brockhoff also considers it his responsibility to maintain and strengthen the department’s position as a strong and research-based department with focus on openness and credibility.

“Today, the disciplines and activities of DTU Compute are omnipresent, and they’ll be increasingly important and subject to attention at all levels of society. The immense amount of attention and the important role of the disciplines in future undoubtedly provide us with incredible possibilities, however also challenges as well as a huge responsibility,” he says.

According to Per Bruun Brockhoff, dissemination of knowledge to the surrounding society is key to a department such as DTU Compute.

“Communication will always be at the core of our activities. Whether it’s introductory teaching, collaboration with research colleagues, inspiration for high school students or business leaders or visions for politicians, civil servants and ministers, we must always communicate in a clear, inviting, and committed manner,” he says.

DTU Compute’s new head of department completed his master’s degree in statistics at Aarhus University 1991. In 1995, he completed his PhD, also in statistics, at The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, where he worked until his employment at DTU.

Per Bruun Brockhoff lives in Værløse in the northern part of Zealand and is married to Lene Bruun Brockhoff. They have three daughters; Trine, Fie, and Julie.
