iLoop Translational Core Research Unit

I'm the director of the iLoop Translational Core research unit at the NNF Center for Biosustainability. The iLoop (Iterative Cell Factory Development Loop) unit works on translational projects related to microbial cell factory engineering. The unit consists of four technology platforms led by team leaders providing specialized services to cell factory development projects in the iLoop Unit and at DTU Biosustain:

  1. Analytics - Hanne Bjerre Christensen
  2. Design - Lasse Ebdrup Pedersen and Niko Sonnenschein
  3. High-throughput workflows - Douglas McCloskey
  4. Genome engineering and project management - Rebecca Lennen

In total, the iLoop Unit employs over 30 interdiciplinary researchers, engineers and technicians. The iLoop Unit collaborates closely with other DTU Biosustain translational units including Business Development and the Pre-Pilot Plant.

More information on the iLoop is available here:

Research interests

My research work is focused on cell factory design using genome-scale models and mining of big biological datasets. More information can be found on the iLoop Design Unit page: I also coordinate the EU Horizon 2020 DD-DeCaF project focused on building bioinformatics services for data-driven desisign of cell factories and communities:
