The Department of Photonics Engineering (DTU Fotonik) opens a postdoc position in the field of Optical Terahertz Science and Technology. The Department has a long research tradition and strong track record within this field, based on state-of-the-art experimental facilities including several amplified femtosecond laser systems and a variety of terahertz (THz) time-domain platforms for ultrafast spectroscopy. The research field of the position is within implementation of ultrafast optical THz technology for specific applications in industry. You will work in close collaboration with a Danish laser company and two companies that are semiconductor industry end users of the technology that we develop. Specifically, we will develop non-contact THz technology for conductivity metrology and for characterization magnetic properties of thin-film materials as well as mapping of carrier conductivity and growth conditions of bulk silicon.

Responsibilities and tasks
Are you interested in the development of high-end terahertz technology into practical real-world applications, perhaps you are our new Postdoc. You will be the lead on bringing together in-house optical THz technology together with state-of-the-art femtosecond laser technology and industrially leading applications in the semiconductor industry. You will be responsible for design, construction and validation of compact optomechanical components driven by femtosecond lasers for generation and detection of THz signals, and the hardware+software integration into industrial platforms.

In a summarized form, your responsibilities and tasks include

  • Management of a technical workpackage in a large collaboration between DTU and industry partners
  • Development of optical THz technology to industry-level stability and reliability
  • Development and implementation of interfaces between hardware components
  • Development and implementation of data acquisition algorithms
  • Writing technical reports and scientific publications based on your work

The project is a collaboration between DTU Fotonik, DTU Nanotech, and the companies Capres A/S, Topsil A/S, and NKT Photonics A/S. We expect that you will engage in a fruitful and open collaboration with the project partners.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

A PhD degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer science or a related degree within the technical sciences is advantageous. Your PhD Thesis must be submitted before the starting date of the appointment.

You must have a keen interest in developing cutting-edge technology at the interface between academia and industry, have a strong personal drive for practical development work in a highly technical discipline.

Preferably, you have extensive experience within several of the following prerequisites:
  • Optics and/or photonics at PhD level
  • Experimental optics laboratory work
  • Rapid (real-time) data acquisition and signal processing
  • Hardware and software interfacing protocols

Flexibility and self-motivation are desired skills at DTU. In addition, we expect you to be interested in collaboration and take personal responsibility for your job. ou must enjoy and find motivation in a dynamic and fast-moving environment with strict deadlines and deliverables.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
