We are looking for a skilled and experienced Senior Data Manager for a permanent part-time position. 

The job 
DTU Bioinformatics has a vacancy for a permanent position within the research area Integrative Systems Biology led by Professor Søren Brunak. 

The Department of Bio and Health Informatics at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Bioinformatics) has its main research and teaching activities in bio-medical and bio-technological informatics, metagenomics, epidemiology, integrative systems biology and machine learning. The research at DTU Bioinformatics is focused on bioinformatics and computational analyses of large amounts of data generated within biological, biomedical and biotechnological and life sciences area. We run projects combining big data and laboratory research via the national supercomputing center (Computerome) and molecular genomics laboratories.

Our expectations of you
As a Data Manager, you will be expected to lead, facilitate and coordinate data acquisition and data management procedures for both the IMI funded DIRECT (https://www.direct-diabetes.org) and the “Danish Next Generation Sequencing and Bioinformatics Platform for Precision Medicine’s projects. You will be working in close collaboration with the Data Management team in order to manage the relevant data systems in the most efficient way. 

You will also be acting as a management interface between the group’s scientists and DTU´s High Performance Computing team, Computerome. Therefore, experience with systems administration, secure private cloud environments, MySQL, and programming (e.g. R, Perl, Python) is desirable. Furthermore, experience with eCRFs and data handling will also be valued positively.

Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or higher) in biological sciences, computer sciences, bioinformatics or equivalent fields. 

Further qualifications:
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following competences: 

  • The ability to communicate efficiently with molecular biologists and medical doctors, as with computer scientists and engineers
  • Experience in biological data analysis such as next generation sequencing and/or proteomics tools and pipelines, data integration and network biology 
  • Experience with systems administration, Citrix environment, MySQL database design and maintenance, design and implementation of eCRFs, handling of data types from diverse biological applications (NGS, metagenomics, metabolomics, MRI scans, clinical data, etc.) 
  • Skills within development of novel tools and pipelines to facilitate methods and data formats
  • Understanding and familiarity with High Performance Computing environments
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English
  • Great communication skills in written and oral form with multidisciplinary partners and stakeholders 

As the Integrative Systems Biology group has a long history of collaboration with national and international groups, you will take part in several projects and collaborations in parallel. For this part of the job, strong organizational, collaborative and networking skills are essential.

Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary will be agreed with the relevant union.

The working hours are 9.25 hours per week.
