DTU Compute’s Section for Algorithms, Logic and Graphs (AlgoLoG) would like to invite applications for a 3-year PhD position starting April 1, 2019. The project is financed by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF), Natural Sciences. 

Project Description
The project contributes to the running time analysis of nature-inspired algorithms, a relatively young research area at the interface between theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. The main aim of the project is to analyse the running time and to derive provably efficient parameter settings, including self-adjusting parameter schemes, for evolutionary algorithms in discrete search spaces. Such results are obtained using techniques from the analysis of randomized algorithms, probability theory and computational complexity.

Requirements
Candidates must have a two-year master’s degree (120 ECTS) in computer science, applied mathematics or related academic qualifications (or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree). Preference will be given to candidates who can document a strong background in the theory of randomized algorithms or of nature-inspired algorithms. Furthermore, a good command of the English language is essential.

Approval and Enrolment

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
