Do you want to help develop innovative and environmentally friendly energy technologies for the future?
The goal of the project is to use materials that exhibit the elastocaloric effect (a temperature increase associated with an applied strain) to build a cooling cycle that can achieve a high temperature span and long life. The project will build on previous research in the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage by using a regenerative cycle coupled with a water-based fluid flow.
New elastocaloric materials will be investigated for use in the device and it will operate under compression rather than tension, with the aim to achieve a longer fatigue life. A new regenerative elastocaloric cooler will be built from the ground with the goal of achieving a high temperature span and a competitive efficiency.
Responsibilities and tasks
The main task of this two year postdoc is to design and test a new elastocaloric cooling device. This will involve working with external suppliers and research groups to identify attractive materials and to investigate different mechanical realizations of the system. External stays are planned at the University of Barcelona and the University of Kiel.

Qualified applicants must have:

  • PhD degree in engineering, physics or similar.
  • Experience with heat and mass transfer.
  • Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks, and to be a part of a large, dynamic group.
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken. 
And have experience in at least two of the following
  • Experience with numerical modelling.
  • Experience with CAD modelling, preferably using Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks
  • Experience with COMSOL.
  • Experience with machine design.
  • Experience with heat pumps or refrigeration systems.
  • Laboratory experience.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
