A Research Engineer position for Heterogenous Catalysis at the Surface Physics and Catalysis (SURFCAT) at DTU Physics.

The objective of SurfCat is to explore and understand the functionality of well-defined surfaces and in particular surfaces of nanoparticles on the atomic level. The main focus is to design nanoparticles with specific functionality towards catalytic processes in the area of heterogeneous-, electro-, and photo-catalysis. Today heterogeneous catalysis forms the basis for industrial chemistry, while electro-and photo-catalysis are areas with huge growth potentials in connection with sustainable energy solutions. The investigations are aiming at understanding how shape, structure, size and composition may influence the functionality such as reactivity for specific processes taking place on surfaces of the nanoparticles. By capitalizing on such fundamental insight is it the hope that we can provide new materials, processes, and solutions that can implemented in future sustainable energy and environmental protection systems.

The Research Engineer will work in an EUROSTARS funded project for clean hydrogen generation from ammonia. The main task will be to develop a low temperature ammonia cracking catalyst and to catalyse metal plates with reactive elements. The work will be performed in close collaboration with RenCat and Alfa Laval.

The successful candidate is well-motivated, hardworking and willing and able to work as part of a team. The candidate should have a Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science. Previous experiences of testing and synthesizing and characterizing heterogeneous catalysts are needed. It is expected that the candidate has previous experience with BET, TEM, SEM and XRD. The ideal candidate should have experience of working in industry or in University-Industry collaborative projects as this project needs highly collaborative effort because of high interdependency of the workpackages of different partners.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 18 months. The position is available from 1 May 2018.
