We are seeking an outstanding candidate for a 3-year fully funded Ph.D-studentship to join a highly international research center - The Novo Nordisk Foundation for Biosustainability, Technical University of Denmark, and become part of the Microbial Evolution and Synthetic Biology Group headed by Morten Nørholm.  

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate will be working on contemporary synthetic biology approaches and optimizing fermentation for production of enzymes in bacteria and fungi. The position is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the successful candidate will join a team of scientists working with synthetic biology, protein production and molecular evolution. The candidate will work closely together with the Translational Core of the Center - a translational research unit focusing on microbial cell factory engineering – and with industrial partners in the industrial enzyme sector. 

Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering. 

Preference will be given to candidates with: 

  • A MSc degree in synthetic/molecular/micro biology or related discipline.
  • Experience in state-of-the-art microbial genetic engineering. 

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see the DTU PhD Guide.

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to grade marks during the MSc education, international experience as well as previous experience with relevant experimental work including scientific publications.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
