Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) in Kongens Lyngby, close to Copenhagen, is building a scale-up/-down piloting facility to commercialize bio-based products and molecules for a variety of customers and application markets. The work of the Piloting Facility of the Center aims towards bridging the gap between academic metabolic engineering projects from cell factories and their commercial application. We aim at establishment and integration of a whole workflow, from synthetic biology through genetic engineering, bench-scale fermentations and scale-up process design towards gate milestone driven project and process development until successful release into the market.

To achieve that, we apply state-of-the-art technology, equipment and tools and seek fellow mindsets for open, creative, collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches. In order to accelerate time to market for the several organisms and cell hosts and their respective downstream processes, we intend to further strengthen the Centers already existing capabilities by adding a highly motivated team of Engineers, Scientists and Technicians to tackle this challenging task.

The aim of this position is to strengthen our strain engineering team, which currently consists of six highly dedicated scientists and two technicians. We are looking for a highly motivated technician with extensive experience in molecular biology. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about molecular biology in general including standard cloning procedures such as PCR, DNA preparation protocols from various microorganisms as well as micro scale fermentation of both bacteria and yeast. As a molecular biology technician, your position requires collaboration with internal groups including fermentation, DSP and analytical chemistry group as well as with third parties, vendors, technology providers and engineering disciplines for process development.

Responsibilities and tasks
  • Routine cloning and strain engineering activities in a high through put (HTP) work flow
  • Genotyping of microbial hosts in HTP fashion
  • HTP screening of microorganisms in microliter scale fermentations
  • Recording and reporting data in Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) and LIMS system
  • Maintaining the tidiness of the lab
  • Supporting equipment maintenance and service contracts
Qualifications
  • A Laboratory Technician degree with relevant experience in the above mentioned fields of responsibility
  • Proven experience in molecular biology
  • Mindset to share your knowledge and experience with other disciplines
  • Initiative and self-motivated with good planning & organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a busy work day with multiple tasks at the same time
  • Takes initiative and can work with minimal guidance
  • Excellent collaboration & communication skills in English, as it is the common language in the center
It would be great if:
  • You have hands on experience with HTP cloning techniques
  • You have experience with HTP microliter scale fermentation screens
  • You have worked with ELN and LIMS on a daily basis
  • You have experience with multiple microbial hosts and fermentation systems
  • You have strong interest in training on and learning new laboratory methods

Salary and terms of employment
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the OAO-S joint agreement and association agreement for office workers, laboratory technicians and IT staff (HK/Stat) signed with the Danish Ministry of Finance.
 
Workplace and period of employment:

The place of employment is the DTU main campus in Lyngby.

The position is permanent.
