The Department of Mechanical Engineering (MEK) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has an open 3-year postdoctoral fellowship in the area of Computational Fluid Dynamics for internal combustion engines.

The research project involves detailed investigations of non-premixed combustion and emission characteristics using heavy fuel oil, marine diesel oil, and liquefied natural gas oil in large two-stroke marine diesel engines. The model development will be performed in OpenFOAM and in STAR-CCM+ and focus on the modelling of turbulent chemistry interaction in full engine models.

The postdoctoral fellowship is part of a larger project funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and includes in addition a PhD position at DTU MEK and another PhD and postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at DTU. Key project partners are MAN Energy Solutions, Copenhagen Denmark, and the University of Lund, Sweden.

Responsibilities
Contribute to all aspects of the developing of the turbulent chemistry interaction models. The candidate is also expected to work closely with Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at DTU to define the criteria in developing skeletal mechanisms for different fuels and evaluate their performance in CFD calculations. The position will involve co-supervision of PhD and Master’s students.

Required qualifications 

  • A PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with expert knowledge and proven records in combustion modeling in OpenFOAM.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with STAR-CCM+, C++ and Chemkin and/or Cantera.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Con- federation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
