CWTS and Leiden Ranking

The foundation of Leiden Ranking is a list of the 1,000 largest universities in the world, based on Web of Science publications in the period 2012-2015.

Leiden Ranking is developed by a team of researchers at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS), Leiden University, Netherlands.

CWTS has more than 25 years of experience with the development of quantitative indicators for the assessment and benchmarking of research. The centre employs approx. 30 researchers.

The two indicators

Impact Indicator:
Proportion of Publications in Top 10%

The proportion of publications of a university that - compared with similar publications - belong to the top 10% most frequently cited.

Collaboration Indicator:
Proportion of Publications with Industry

The proportion of publications of a university that have been co-authored with industrial partners.
