DTU Nanotech conducts research, education and innovation within micro- and nanotechnologies across a wide range of scientific disciplines consisting of: materials fabrication, optics, chemistry, nanomedicine and biotechnology. An Assistant Professor position in DTU Nanotech is available in the area of polymer synthesis and nanomaterials synthesis. We invite applications from candidates with a strong background in polymer chemistry and science.

The assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position.

The research area of the position is within polymer synthesis, organic chemistry and nanomaterials design and characterization.

Responsibilities and tasks
We are looking for a highly experienced and ambitious polymer chemist with a solid background in a range of polymer synthesis techniques, characterizations and applications. The candidate should be highly self-motivated, driven and strive to achieve a high standard of research on an international level.

You will be working as part of a team on the development of novel polymeric nanomedicines for chronic diseases such as atherosclerosis.You will contribute to innovative research projects in polymeric nanomedicines.

You will be required to contribute to the training and supervision of Masters, PhD and postdoc members.

The position will allow you to collaborate with colleagues with expertise in drug delivery, molecular biology, and in vitro and in vivo disease models. You will be expected to develop your own scientific profile and to apply for external research funding to build your own research group around activities that would complement other research activities in the group. You should have a desire for teaching both undergraduate and graduate students.

Qualifications
You should have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in polymer chemistry, polymer engineering/science or a similar degree, and the following qualifications: 

  • A background in a range of polymer synthesis techniques such as free-radical polymerization, RAFT, ATRP, anionic polymerization
  • Extensive polymer characterization techniques
  • Experience in organic chemistry and synthesis of small molecule monomers and precursors and organic synthesis characterization techniques
  • Experience in nanofabrication and materials characterization
  • Several years of postdoctoral experience in the areas listed above
  • Some experience in teaching and supervision of students
  • Fluent in EnglishYou should enjoy interacting with PhD students and postdocs and be willing to disseminate your research findings at regular meetings, conferences and symposia

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

An assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position. After a maximum of 4 years, an assistant professor can be promoted to an associate professor position after assessment. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU
