A position as research assistant is available at DTU Food in the Research Group of Genomic Epidemiology. 

The group provides advisory service to the Danish Veterinary and Food administration on matters related to surveillance and outbreak detection of food borne pathogens and antimicrobial resistance. The group is also EU and WHO Reference Laboratory for antimicrobial resistance and combines activities on development and implementation of whole genome and community sequencing, bioinformatics and epidemiological modeling of the occurrence of human and zoonotic microbiological hazards both at a national and global perspective.

We offer a position from May 2017 with duration of 3 years with possibilities for extension. The position is affiliated with a day to day responsibility for conducting surveillance and control of zoonotic agents in food products and animals in Denmark and ensuring data and sample flow for the entire research group.

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate will have the primary responsibility for ensuring the research groups contact to the Danish Veterinary and Food administration, Statens Serum Institute, industry and other relevant national and international stakeholders for surveillance and outbreak detection. The applicant is also expected to take responsibility for the management of the group’s global and national sample and strain collection and optimizing the analytic data-flow in collaboration with the researchers.

Other content of the position, include:

  • Sampling for global sources
  • Exchanging knowledge with society, including participation in the public debate
  • Research management
  • Some teaching
  • Guidance and supervision of assistant professors and researchers
  • Academic assessment work

Candidates should have a master’s degree and preferably experience relevant for the job.

Candidates must have:

  • Academic qualifications relevant for the job
  • Experience in teaching and education
  • Experience with national advisory service
  • Knowledge about detection of bacterial outbreaks
  • Knowledge about bacterial genomics and whole genome sequencing
  • Ability to combine microbiology and epidemiology
  • Knowledge of the Danish food and agricultural production

The candidates must also be:

  • Structured and focusing on overview and perspective
  • Capable of working as part of a team
  • Fluent in Danish and English

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The position is temporary for 3 years with possibilities for extension.
