Chemical Engineering and International Business

The Chemical Engineering and  International Business programme is offered by Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in collaboration with the Copenhagen Business School (CBS). It is an interdisciplinary programme that provides students with broad-based knowledge of a specialist technical field while teaching them about business economics, organization and management.

360° understanding
The BEng programme in chemical engineering and international business is aimed at companies that need engineers with a 360-degree understanding of both the production-related and commercial aspects of running a business. These key skills are highly sought after in industry.

Chemical Engineering and International Business
It is a chemical engineer’s job to find out how a new product—e.g. a new drug or enzyme—can be mass-produced economically and with as little environmental impact as possible. The range of work involved is therefore broad—from the operation and development of processes, through product development and consultancy, to inspection and management. Chemical Engineering and International Business is based on the BEng programme in chemical and bio engineering, supplemented with various economic and management subjects from the BSc programme in Economics and Business Administration at CBS. Students have precisely the right combination of skills in chemistry and biotechnology together with a good understanding of business economics.

Highly job oriented
At DTU students are taught together with the students on the Chemical and Bio Engineering programme. Theory is always supported by practicals and small projects. Students learn about energy use, product quality and the environment (sustainability), as well as how to manufacture products in chemical and biotechnology plants. The modules at CBS provides them with a detailed insight into the conditions in which industry operates, as well as the close relationship between development, production, sales and marketing in a technology company. All told, around one sixth of the programme takes place at CBS.

The future
The programme has been designed in cooperation with managers and firms who know what is required in a modern company. The graduates’ skills are targeted specifically at what industry is looking for, so there are excellent job opportunities, possibly as a highly qualified liaison between finance and production.
