DTU Compute seeks a dedicated candidate for an appointment as Researcher within 3D image analysis. The position is available from February 2018 or according to mutual agreement. As researcher, you will be part of the Section for Image Analysis and Computer Graphics where we develop methods for processing and analyzing 2D and 3D data. Our research is application-driven, and we have a strong collaboration network both inside DTU and externally, with industrial partners and with international large-scale imaging facilities.

Structural quantification of 3D imaging data is a primary limiting factor in using 3D imaging form large scale facilities. Therefore, there is a need for automated methods for analysing the large amounts of data acquired in 3D imaging. Developing and employing such methods is the focus of this research position. The aim of the new position is thus to expand the Department’s research in 3D image analysis for materials science. Imaging is a core research area for the new large scale research facilities, MAX IV and ESS in Lund and at our local 3D Imaging Center at DTU.

Responsibilities and tasks
As researcher, you will be part of a team for developing 3D image analysis methods mainly for materials science applications. If you are skilled in analysing 3D image data and enjoy a cross-disciplinary research environment, you should consider applying for the position.

You will be part of the collaboration between the image group at DTU Compute and other researchers involved in 3D imaging including the 3D Imaging Center at DTU and large-scale facilities such as MAX IV and ESS. Here we expect you to take part in: 

  • conducting research in image analysis methods that allow reliable structural quantification of 3D images,
  • engaging in close collaboration with materials scientists to help finding analysis solutions to 3D imaging problems,
  • involving student projects in your research,
  • taking the role as project leader and coordinate research in 3D imaging,
  • working with innovation for developing products based on analysis methods or materials science cases,
  • disseminating research results in relevant scientific journals or conference proceedings.  
Qualifications
Candidates must 
  • hold a PhD degree (or equivalent)
Further qualifications:  
  • Have experience in image analysis or similar data science background
  • Document research background
  • Document relevant training including project management

  • Experience with working in a cross-disciplinary research environment within 3D imaging
  • Experience in working with research projects involving industrial collaborators
  • Experience with project supervision including student supervision
  • Project management at an operational level

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The position as researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU.
