The Department of Environmental Engineering (DTU
Environment) at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a
position as Postdoc within the section Air, Land and Water Resources.
The Air, Land and Water Resources section (ALW)
conducts research within aspects of global climate change, air pollution,
hydrology, and interactions of the terrestrial biosphere with the hydrological
cycle and atmosphere. Special focus is on water resources and greenhouse gas
exchange between the atmosphere and natural and anthropogenic systems. Advanced
techniques like tracer gas and eddy-covariance flux measurements, experimental
manipulation of ecosystems, remote sensing, and modelling are used.
The postdoctoral research focuses on the development
of satellite earth observation techniques for rivers and water resources
systems. New data processing and model-data fusion techniques will be
developed, supporting a range of new applications in water resources management,
flood hazard management and drought risk assessment. The geographic focus of
the work will be mainland China.
Responsibilities and tasks
The postdoctoral research will be carried out in
collaboration with a number of academic, industrial and public sector partners
in Denmark and China, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan
University, DTU Space, DHI GRAS and DHI. Activities will be embedded into a
larger research project funded by the Danida Fellowship Center.
The specific responsibilities and tasks of the
postdoctoral researcher will include
- Development of new remote sensing methods for
inland water variables, including water surface elevation and surface
water extent
- Preparation and analysis of national-scale inland
water datasets for China
- Development of hydrologic/hydraulic simulation
and forecasting systems
- Data-model fusion and integration into decision
support systems
- Project management and coordination of project
partners
- Contribution to teaching and student project
supervision at DTU Environment
Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. The successful candidate will have expertise in
hydrology and hydraulics, satellite remote sensing, practical experience with
different types of sensors (radar altimetry, synthetic aperture radar, spectral
images) and numerical modeling. The candidate will have experience with the DHI
water resources simulation models, especially Mike Hydro River. Excellent
programming skills including C# are required. Excellent written and oral
Chinese language skills are important. Experience with field activities and practical
water resources applications in China is an asset. Willingness to travel and
work in an international environment is essential.
