DTU Physics is offering a two-year position as postdoc in the Section of Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy (PPFE) at the Department of Physics, Technical University of Denmark.

The main research activities in PPFE are on plasma turbulence and transport and dynamics and diagnostics of fast ions in magnetically confined plasmas.

The activities are an integral part of the European fusion collaboration within EUROfusion and involve participation at EUROfusion facilities. Additionally, we are benefitting from a broad international network involving Chinese, Korean, and American groups.

We are presently starting up in-house experimental activities on a small Tokamak device.  

Responsibilities and tasks
Your research will be within the field on plasma turbulence and the associated turbulent transport. Particularly we aim at developing a predictive model for the edge plasma region including the Scrape-off Layer in magnetically confined toroidal plasmas.

The investigations are theoretical and numerical. Collaborations with experimental groups at European fusion laboratories for benchmarking the models against experimental results are expected.

Particularly your responsibilities will comprise 

  • Numerical modelling in relation to experimental investigations of plasma turbulence and transport in the Edge/SOL plasma applying our suite of fluid based codes including neutral plasma interaction and atomic physics effects
  • Further development of our code suite – particularly involving building in realistic geometrical effects for toroidal confinement devises.
  • Actively participating in EUROfusion collaboration on research topics within the field exhaust physics including mainly modelling activities but may also extend to participation in experimental campaigns and data handling
  • Participation in supervision of students from the bachelor to PhD level will be an integrated part of the job together with some teaching activities.
  • Candidates should have a PhD degree in physics or equivalent
  • A documented experience in plasma physics – preferably fusion plasma physics – and numerical methods
  • Your communication skills and overview paired with your ability to bring in new ideas and collaborations allows you to efficiently contribute to scientific success in highly motivated teams
  • Proficiency in English
  • Be prepared to acquire sufficient skills to be able to read Danish text and communicate
  • Willingness to travel

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment will be for 24 month. Employment may start at 1 September 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The workplace is the department of Physics at DTU Lyngby Campus.
