The Quantum Nanophotonics Group at DTU Fotonik, Department of Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark is seeking a candidate for a Postdoc position in the field of Material Science.

The research aims at pioneering a new material platform for quantum information science & technology based on novel crystal-phase quantum dots in nanowires. Quantum structures in nanowires are one of the key candidates for numerous applications in quantum computation and quantum communication, and could form a strong basis of a forthcoming Quantum Internet.

Responsibilities and tasks
The research is mainly experimental and focused on: 

  • Exploring a robust and flexible material platform for advanced quantum devices based on novel crystal-phase quantum dots in nanowires. 
  • Developing efficient single-photon sources based on nanowire quantum dots. In particular, single-photon source emitting at 1.5 um, that will be a key element in quantum communication systems developed in our labs. 
  • Developing the epitaxial growth of quantum structures based on multiple quantum dots in a single nanowire. Optimizing these structures to realize a versatile solid-state quantum register with photonic interface.

Our group works in a new state-of-the-art nanophotonics lab in tight collaboration with a team of quantum nanophotonics theorists and a team of nanofabrication experts. We have an effective in-house collaboration that covers all aspects of our research: theory and modeling, sample growth and fabrication, experiments and demonstrations. We have created a dynamic research environment of young and senior scientists aimed at excellent science.

The candidate is expected to effectively conduct an independent and collaborative research aimed at excellent science.

Qualifications
Candidates should have: 

  • A PhD degree or equivalent.
  • Relevant research experience.
  • Experience in clean-room fabrication, epitaxial growth of nanowire quantum dots and their optical characterization is highly appreciated.
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Interest in collaborating with international partners.
  • Interest in assisting in co-supervising B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. students relevant for the project.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The starting date is 1 November 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The employment is for a period of 6 months.
