The Technical University of Denmark has an open post-doc position in the Department of Photonics Engineering (DTU Fotonik) in the group of Photovoltaic Materials and Systems. In the group the thin-film photovoltaics team is working on the chalcogenide material CZTS (Cu2ZnSnS4) which can be used as upper layer on a silicon tandem cell, such that this cell increases its efficiency significantly. The thin films will be produced by solution processing, while other researchers in the team work with magnetron plasma sputtering deposition and pulsed laser deposition (PLD). These CZTS films have an energy gap which is favourable for top layers on silicon tandem cells. This work will be performed in collaboration with other institutes at DTU (DTU Nanotech and DTU Energy) and foreign partners.

Description of the work
The film material is a chalcogenide compound Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS), which consists of non-toxic, environmentally friendly materials which also are abundant. The group has recently produced a thin-film cell of 4 % efficiency with solution processing, and also earlier produced a thin film of CZTS by pulsed laser deposition with a power conversion efficiency of 5.2 % which is the current world record by this method. However, in this project the applicant will preferentially make the thin films by solution processing, in particular by spray coating and spin coating, which are some of the main directions for obtaining a large-scale, industrial production of inexpensive cells. A part of this work may be carried out at foreign laboratories within and outside Denmark with which DTU collaborates.

The candidate will work on production of films based on this sulfur compound with spray coating and spin-coating for applications in silicon tandem cells as well as on the understanding of photophysical properties of the film materials.

The candidate will also participate in teaching of courses in photovoltaics as well as of supervision of bachelor, master and ph.d. students. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to participate in the organization of the new specialisation-line in Sustainable Energy at DTU, and also to undertake departmental duties on handling of chemicals.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D.-degree in physics, chemistry, nanotechnology, photonics engineering and materials science or similar. Previous laboratory experience in the area of thin film synthesis by solution processing as well as knowledge of thin film photovoltaics are necessary for this position. Also experience in teaching, education organization at university level and dissemination in general will be needed. Good communication skills in oral and written English are required.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 1.5 years.
