DTU Mechanical Engineering, the section for manufacturing engineering invites applications for a Post Doc. position in the field of Production of light, precise aluminium components. The position is to be filled as soon as possible and runs until 31 March 2020.

The project to which the applicant will be assigned, focus on analysing, how geometrical variation in cast components occur in different steps of the production chain.

In the project we use 3D optical scanning systems to measure dimensional variations in castings. Measurements are combined with data from production databased and used to analyse and optimise the production.

Responsibilities and tasks  

  • You will have to analyse geometrical data from 3D optical systems obtained at DTU or in production at a project partner.
  • You will have to discuss strategies for scanning and subsequent analysis with the project partners and will be responsible for planning and execution of measurement campaigns.
  • You will be responsible for designing experimental plans and should suggest methods for process analysis based on geometrical data and input from process monitoring data from production.
  • Using production data and geometrical measurements you will have to work with commercial process simulation software to model the influence of process parameters on geometrical variation in cast components,
  • You will also take part in general project administration.

The candidate will be working closely together with staff at DTU and the industrial partners in the project. It is therefore important the candidate is able to communicate and co-operate with employees at all levels of the partner organisations.

The candidate will become a part of the team of lecturers at DTU Mechanical Engineering and will be required to give lectures, run laboratory courses and supervise students’ projects.

Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. 

Furthermore you should: 

  • have a background in manufacturing engineering, materials processing or industrial engineering.
  • preferably have experience with use of 3D optical scanning methods to analyse variations in dimensions in industrial production.
  • have experience with statistical methods for experimental design and analysis of process data. It will be advantageous if the candidate has some experience with GOM Inspect software.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 1 October 2018 to 31 March 2020.

The candidate will be employed at DTUs Lyngby Campus, but should be prepared to travel to run experiments at the project partners in other parts of the country.
