The Measurement and Instrumentation Systems (MIS) group at DTU Space has its main research areas within the advanced high performance instruments for use on board spacecraft.  Our instruments are on more than 50 international space missions including NASA mission Juno arriving at Jupiter in July 2016.

The department’s team is currently looking for a highly motivated and qualified digital hardware colleague to participate in the maintenance of the present instrument design and to play a significant role in new developments.

The research done by the department has led to several novel measurement principles, which encompass multi-sensor-head star trackers for improved maneuverability, sub-arcsecond accuracy instruments, miniature magnetometer packages for planetary landers and rendezvous docking systems. The candidate will participate in technological implementation of these principles as well as support the MIS group and its customers on presently active missions.

Responsibilities and tasks
The department is currently developing several new instruments and the candidate will participate in all phases of the process: the actual design, the PCB layout, the prototype testing, the verification of the design and the corresponding documentation.

The right candidate will work on world class instrumentation solutions for the future spacecraft of the world, with the main costumers being future scientific missions of NASA and ESA.

The candidate is expected to have the following profile:

  • MSc in Electronics Engineering or similar
  • Experience in design of modern digital electronics, including FPGA and µcontrollers
  • Experience in reliability and dependability analyses and verification
  • Skills in team based development effort
  • The ability to communicate competently in oral and written English is arequirement of this position.
  • Collaborative skills, group based design, implementation, verification and qualification for flight
Space instrumentation requires extremely high quality and reliability of the products thus the candidate is expected to have particularly quality and detail oriented work style. Motivation to contribute to the further technological development of the space instrumentation plays the key role in the assessment of the candidates.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
