DTU Bioengineering seeks an assistant professor in the field of Enzyme Technology in relation to Biomass Conversion Analyses. The position is within DTU’s strategic effort on catalytic proteins and specifically targets sustainable bioresource utilization. The position is in the Protein Chemistry & Enzyme Technology Division at DTU Bioengineering.

The assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position.

Responsibilities and tasks
The position includes responsibilities related to the department’s externally financed projects within enzymatic processing of complex biomass across several ongoing research projects: biomass conversion and pretreatment, enzymatic biomass refining, enzymatic catalysis on lignocellulose and agroindustrial components (sidestreams), carbohydrate biorefining and fractionation, as well as assay and methods development for these reactions. A particular task is the development and execution of advanced analyses (LC-MS/MS, HPAEC) within the above research project activities, proactive involvement in the continuous development of the Division’s analytical platform, enzymatic bioprocess research, and supervision of PhD students and project students within biocatalysis analytics. The position also includes teaching obligations and we expect that the candidate has or will take the Teaching and Learning course (UDTU) at DTU Learning Lab within the first year of the employment.

Qualifications
Candidates must

  • hold a PhD degree or equivalent and academic qualifications and research experience equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Researcher or Postdoc.
The candidate should also have:
  • “Hands-on” experience with LC-MS, Maldi-TOF, HPLC and HPAEC equipment and methods at state-of-the-art research level, in particular with respect to complex carbohydrates analyses.
  • Experience with method development and use of programs such as Chromeleon and Bruker Compass.
  • Documented research experience within biomass processing, reaction assessment, enzymatic reaction discovery, and targeted use of enzymes for complex carbohydrate biorefining.
  • Documented research experience within biomass chemistry and enzyme kinetics (enzyme assays, productivity terms, extended reactions).
  • International and Industrial collaboration experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Danish.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

An assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position. After a maximum of 4 years, an assistant professor can be promoted to an associate professor position after assessment. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU.
