Technical University of Denmark offers a 18 month postdoc position with focus on electron-beam doping of semiconductor nanowires and electron holography. The successful candidate will be primarily using an environmental TEM (ETEM) and advanced electron microscopy techniques at the Center for Electron Nanoscopy.

Doping is the intentional addition of atomic impurities in a material, routinely used to manipulate the electrical, optical, and magnetic properties of semiconductors. Semiconductor nanowires (NWs) represent one of the most powerful and versatile building blocks for high performance nanoscaled devices. One of the major challenges towards scaling electronic devices to the nanometre-size is achieving controlled doping and accurate quantification. 

Responsibilities and tasks 
The successful candidate is expected to effectively conduct an independent research aimed at excellent science. The initial task will be to establish the in-situ doping capability at the ETEM. The ultimate task will be to use the ETEM for doping NWs, to understand how doping is incorporated and how it can be controlled at the atomic level. 

The successful candidate will conduct work among the following project activities: 
  • Building up the in-situ doping capability at the ETEM
  • Electron beam induced deposition at the ETEM
  • Electron holography in vacuum and under relevant gas atmospheres
  • Doping of NWs
  • Tomographic reconstructions of doped NWs
  • Electric measurements of doped NWs
  • Analysis to extract quantitative information from electron holograms and electrical measurements
  • Link experimental observation to theoretical data.
Qualifications 
The ideal candidate should have:  
  • a PhD degree in Physics or equivalent.
  • a profound knowledge of semiconductor materials, doping and nanowires.
  • extensive experience with electron microscopy, especially with electron holography and/or ETEM related work.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 18 months. Stating date is 1 March 2019.
