DTU Fotonik works with all areas of photonic engineering, including a strong focus on optical communications. We are hereby announcing a Postdoc position to work on time lenses for passive optical network (PON) systems. The starting date will be 1st of September, 2018 or as soon as possible.

PON systems are used in vast quantity to achieve last mile connectivity for private and corporate customers. PON systems face great challenges in continuously scaling to the data rates required by customers – and doing so in an energy efficient and economically viable manner.

The main topic for this position is to apply optical technology to address this challenge of offering vastly increased data rates to users without an associated increase in energy consumption.

Responsibilities and tasks
The Postdoc project will be carried out in the High-Speed Optical Communications group (HSOC) in the Department of Photonic Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark. The HSOC group is at the very forefront of international research in optical communication technology and holds a number of world records in ultra-high-speed optical communication. There is access to state-of-the-art experimental facilities and cleanroom facilities. The group is highly international and encourage collaborative work with an informal working environment.

The main responsibilities within this position are:

  • Design and realization of prototype systems to investigate and demonstrate the possibilities of optical processing in PON systems.
  • Investigation of full systems as well as optimization of subcomponents such as nonlinear optical fibre, optical filters and optical pulse sources.

The postdoc will be actively involved in maturing concepts for optical PON.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

The candidate should have a strong background in experimental photonics, including optical characterization and optical communication systems. Experience in ultra-high-speed transmission and optical signal processing is preferred.

The candidate should have experience with design and implementation of advanced fiber-based optical signal processing.

The candidate should be able to work independently on characterization and advanced system experiments as well as collaborate with other researchers in the High-Speed Optical Communications.

Salary and terms of employment
The place of work is DTU Lyngby campus and the period of employment is three years.
