DTU Compute’s Section for Cyber Security, invites applications for an appointment as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor within cryptology. The position is available from May 1, 2019 or according to mutual agreement.

The department, DTU Compute, is an internationally unique academic environment spanning the science disciplines mathematics, statistics and computer science. At the same time, we are an engineering department covering informatics and communication technologies (ICT) in their broadest sense. Finally, we play a major role in addressing the societal challenges of the digital society where ICT is a part of every industry, service, and human endeavour.

DTU Compute strives to achieve research excellence in its basic science disciplines, to achieve technological leadership in research and innovation, and to address societal challenges in collaboration with partners at DTU and other academic institutions, nationally and internationally, and, equally important, with industry and organizations. DTU Compute plays a central role in education at all levels of the engineering programmes at DTU - both in terms of our scientific disciplines and our didactic innovation.

Responsibilities and tasks
Through the position, the University seeks to strengthen the research within cyber security. The cyber security section at DTU has experts in cryptology, in particular the design and analysis of ciphers and hash functions, but wishes to further strengthen its research within cryptology.

Topics of particular interest include but are not limited to: 

  • symmetric cryptology
  • lightweight and resource-efficient cryptography
  • post-quantum cryptology
  • provable security of cryptographic primitives
  • side-channel attacks and physical cryptanalysis
  • analysis and protection of cryptographic implementations
  • algorithmic aspects of cryptology
  • efficient implementation of cryptographic primitives

Candidates with strong expertise in any other area of cryptology are also encouraged to apply.

Interest and skills in pedagogical work and dissemination of mathematical sciences will play an important role.

You will work together with other members of the section to innovate and strengthen our current course offerings in cryptology and cyber security. The department offers MSc and PhD courses and projects. Teaching and development of courses have a very high priority at DTU Compute. The department is well- known for its modern, engaged and pedagogical teaching and prioritizes that all employees participate actively in course development. To support this, all new employees are offered university teaching courses. At DTU Compute, we value knowledge sharing and cross functionality. Therefore, you are expected to cooperate and be eager to build relations with colleagues in the department and with other departments at DTU.

You are expected to participate in departmental teaching at all levels so you should value visionary and meaningful communication. The teaching will cover Bachelor-, Master- and PhD-level courses. Bachelor courses are taught in Danish, other courses in English. For international candidates, DTU offers Danish language courses for the purpose of being able to teach in Danish within the first 2-3 years.

Qualifications
Candidates for an: 

  • Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in applied mathematics, computer engineering or computer science.
  • Associate Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in applied mathematics, computer engineering or computer science as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship and should document didactic/pedagogic training.

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to:

  • Leadership potential and collaboration
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The position is a full-time position.

The assistant professor position is a permanent entry-level faculty position. After a maximum of 4 years, an assistant professor can be promoted to an associate professor position after assessment. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU.
