The Climate DTU Unit coordinates cross disciplinary climate activities at DTU, and within this frame the Climate DTU Unit acts as an independent research and advisory platform. The specific areas of work include energy technologies, economics, energy modeling, mathematics, resources, transport, industrial processes, building sector, biosystems, food, forest, agriculture, arctic environment, water systems and management.

The tasks include consultancy activities to the authorities, collaboration with business and organisations, interdisciplinary research, workshops and dialogue sessions, dissemination of scientific knowledge on climate issues, participation in the European Climate Change Research Alliance (ECRA) and ongoing support for DTU's management and administration on climate issues.

Research

The research focuses on interdisciplinary cooperation in the development of models for quantitative analysis of climate impacts, adaptation and greenhouse gas emissions at the sector level and for the socio-economics.

The focus is particularly on developing and applying quantitative mathematical models and prioritization tools to model and assess climate change, climate adaptation and mitigation of greenhouse gases.

DTU has through its technical, scientific academic setting the right basis for developing and deploying tools to support decision making, and the Climate DTU Unit coordinates an interdisciplinary effort on DTU for quantitative analysis on climate change (Climate Model Center).

Competencies

The competences of the Climate DTU Unit includes modeling and quantitative technical and economic analysis of energy and climate for Denmark, Scandinavia, Europe and globally in relation to greenhouse gas emissions, economy, regional climate impacts and strategies for climate adaptation.

The Climate DTU Unit participates in international and Danish scientific assessments within the climate change area, and has among others leading authorships in the UN Climate Panel (IPCC).

The employees in the Climate DTU Unit participate in the Smart Cities Network under the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) and the European Climate Change Research Alliance (ECRA).
