Climate research

Denmark has the potential to be among the best in the world to create solutions to the world’s climate challenges. Therefore it is important that Danish climate research is in the forefront in an international perspective and that business and governments puts focus on the area and cooperate with the research world.

With the challenges we face on climate change and the potential that the development can provide for future growth, there is a need for a coordinated R & D effort as the basis for the climate policy process of introducing new technologies and comprehensive solutions. DTU has many activities in climate science and has through many years of work built up great expertise within the climate science area.

Since the UN's climate panel (IPCC) in their fourth Assessment Report of 2007 made it clear that the climate will change, the climate research at DTU has been strengthened significantly, partly through the creation of Climate DTU, which coordinates the interdisciplinary climate activities at DTU.

The interdisciplinary climate research at DTU ensures that all relevant competencies in the DTU institutes are working coordinated to increase our knowledge about climate change and to create sustainable technological solutions to climate change.

Efforts include technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, technologies for adaptation as well as monitoring, mapping and assessment of the effects of climate change.

Climate research is in line with DTUs mission of utilizing technical and scientific knowledge to benefit society by meeting the needs of businesses, government and research community in fulfilling ambitious global climate targets.
