DTU has a central position in relation to the EU climate and energy research

DTU plays a major role in EU’s energy and climate research. We participate in co-operation and prioritisation within The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

We participate in the European SEEIT collaboration between eight universities and three research centers on research, education and innovation in sustainable energy. We are a founding member of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA), for example in the topic Smart Cities.

We are also co-founder of The European Climate Research Alliance (ECRA) which is a platform for EU research on energy and climate technology. These collaborations will also be of great benefit to business. We have particularly close collaboration with the TU Munich and TU Eindhoven on the climate area.

International research cooperation within the climate area

DTU has an internationally leading role within energy and climate issues through the UNEP Risø Centre, which supports the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in its work with incorporating environmental aspects into energy planning and policy worldwide, especially in developing countries.

DTU hosts the secretariat of the Global Network on Energy for Sustainable Development (GNESD) and the Korean government’s European office of Global Green Growth Institute.

Among other international climate cooperation relations are the Korean technical university KAIST and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in the USA.

Nordic cooperation on climate

DTU’s cooperation with the other Nordic countries takes place for example through the strategic Nordic Five Tech (N5T) alliance, which focuses on student exchanges between member universities and cooperation within the climate and energy area. The N5T alliance includes leading technical universities in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
