Industrial and Applied Statistics

Contact: Murat Kulahci, DTU Informatics, mail:

The field of industrial statistics has been receiving a renewed interest with expanding use of quality and productivity improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma. These methodologies usually emphasize and demand the use of some of the basic industrial statistics techniques such as design of experiments, statistical process control, process capability analysis, reliability analysis, etc.

The continuing advances in computing technology combined with powerful statistical software allow for successful implementation of these techniques in industry as well as public and service sectors. Moreover new emerging areas such as data mining and financial engineering push the envelope further by exploring exciting potential application areas of statistics. In today’s data rich environments of every aspect of life, gaining in depth understanding and ability of practical tools in statistics can certainly have a lasting impact on one’s professional career.
