The largest infrastructure project in Danish history has won the prestigious ‘RegioStars Award 2016’. DTU has contributed with research

The ‘Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster’ project has won the prestigious EU award ‘RegioStars Award 2016’, which was presented at a ceremony in Belgium.

Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster has helped join players in the field of cleantech and created more than 1,000 new green jobs in Greater Copenhagen and on Zealand from 2009 to 2014.

DTU has contributed to the success, which is based on substantial research efforts. Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster has made it possible to translate cleantech research results into innovation for the benefit of society. The efforts have already led to the establishment of a large number of spin-outs, with more on the way.

The project has furthermore enabled DTU to facilitate innovation across the cleantech field and to enter into dialogue with the other players. This has generated innovative solutions and improved services for citizens.

The project has primarily been funded by the Capital Region of Denmark, Region Zealand, and EU’s Regional Fund, promoting cross-regional work for the benefit of all parties involved.

”The reason for the success is that researchers who have achieved good results have been able to continue working on their inventions, which has made it possible to demonstrate that the concept works, while at the same time identifying the potential. This has been a precondition for the establishment of the large number of spin-outs”, says Viggo Aaberg Kærn, Senior Business Developer and Project Manager at DTU.
