The expansion of Østerild and Høvsøre is on schedule at the Danish parliament

Wind energy Energy

On April 5th, the expansion of the two test centres for wind turbine will be discussed at the Danish parliament. The law is expected to take effect on July 1st 2018.

In March 2017, the Government, Socialdemokratiet, Dansk Folkeparti and Socialistisk Folkeparti (SF) made an agreement related to the expansion of the two wind turbine test centres in Østerild and Høvsøre in northern Jutland.

The plan is, that the two centres are being expanded with an additional two test stands each. Thus, in the future there will be 7 test stands in Høvsøre and 9 in Østerild. Additionally, the law will make it possible to place larger wind turbines at the two test centres meaning, that in Høvsøre it will be possible to test wind turbines up to 200 metres in height, and in Østerild wind turbines up to 330 meters height will be tested.

Poul Hummelshøj, Head of Section at DTU Wind Energy and responsible for Østerild and Høvsøre, is looking forward to the expansion:

“If Denmark should continue to remain at the peak of wind energy research and development, it is important that we have the right facilities that will enable us to test and develop wind turbines. It is therefore positive, that we now have the opportunity to test on an even larger scale in Østerild and Høvsøre,"he says.
