DTU has just completed the tendering rounds for the four new test sites which are the result of the Danish Parliament’s decision to establish more test facilities in Denmark.

Earlier this year, the Danish Parliament’s parties decided to expand the test centres at Østerild and Høvsøre with four additional test sites. Permission was also given to install wind turbines up to 330 metres tall at Østerild and 200 metres tall at Høvsøre.

There has been great interest throughout the entire tender process. Peter Hjuler Jensen, Deputy Head of DTU Wind Energy, is pleased that the University received a total of eleven exciting and highly qualified bids from all over the world:

“It bodes well for the future and can help ensure that Denmark will continue to be at the global forefront within research and development of wind technology.”

DTU President Anders Bjarklev emphasizes out that the University has been able to realize the Danish Parliament’s decision quickly and efficiently:

“DTU is proud that we with the completion of the tender call are already capable of realizing the Danish Parliament’s decision earlier this year to expand the two test centres at Østerild and Høvsøre. By this, tests and development of the latest technology in the field continues to take place in Denmark for the benefit of industry and Danish society at large.”

The Danish politicians are also very pleased that Denmark will not lose momentum and can maintain its leading position. Minister for Business, Industry and Financial Affairs, Rasmus Jarlov:

“I’m pleased that we now know which companies will be assigned the new sites, so the specific planning can begin. All parties in the Danish Parliament are supporting the opportunity for expanding the two test centres with more and larger test wind turbines, so we can maintain the growth which the wind power industry generates in Denmark, while strengthening the transition to green energy.”

And finally, Minister for Energy, Utilities and Climate, Lars Christian Lilleholt concludes:

“The great interest in the new test sites at Østerild and Høvsøre is yet another testament to Denmark’s position as a global leader in wind power development and demonstration projects. I’m therefore pleased that we with the expansion of the test centres can honour the great demand and contribute to the technology development, so we as soon as possible can see wind turbine expansion in Denmark without government support.”
