The Fiber Sensors & Supercontinuum Group at DTU Fotonik, Department of Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral candidate willing to work on a challenging scientific project in a serious but also friendly and team-work oriented environment in the field of optical materials, soft-glass synthesis and fiber fabrication of novel multi-functional fibers.  

Responsibilities and tasks
The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the project “Multi-BRAIN: Multi-functional optical fibers for brain dynamics monitoring and imaging”. The position involves the synthesis of advanced chalcogenide glasses based on different compositions, extrusion process and fabrication of multi-functional optical fibers using different materials.

 

As part of the project, the candidate will be also involved in the development of an imaging system based on photoacoustics and therefore any prior knowledge of imaging modalities will be considered an extra advantage.

Qualifications
Candidate should: 

  • Have a PhD in experimental fiber-optics or materials science.
  • Have strong experience with glass synthesis and fiber fabrication
  • Have basic knowledge of extrusion process using either polymer or glass
  • Be experienced with characterization of fibers in the mid-IR spectral range and have evidence of producing excellent experimental work in an optical laboratory
  • Have basic knowledge of imaging modalities.
  • have excellent writing and communication skills with evidence of writing excellent scientific articles.
  • Interest and familiarity with theoretical modelling is an additional advantage

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The employment is for a period of three years with the possibility of further extension. The starting date is November 1, 2019 or as soon as possible hereafter.

The workplace will be at DTU Fotonik, Ørsteds Plads, Building 343 Lyngby Campus.
