Jes Broeng is a serial high-tech entrepreneur, photonics scientist, and professor at the Technical University of Denmark, DTU. He has a Ph.D. and M.Sc. from DTU and is author and co-author of more than 200 publications (including Science), 1 textbook, and 18 patents (h-index = 44, +10.000 citations).

Jes Broeng’s research interests include business and leadership areas of entrepreneurship, innovation and technology transfer, and scientific areas of optics, photonics and communications. He has extensive experience in applied research, early high-tech business development, IPR and licensing, and high-tech sales (US, Europe, and Asia). Jes Broeng is co-founder of five start-ups: Crystal Fibre (now NKT Photonics), Norlase, Bifrost Communications, Aqubiq and OSAA Innovation – and he has pioneered a new model for successful university spin-outs. He is further a mentor multiple start-ups and member of the prestigious Nordic Mentor Network for Entrepreneurship (NOME). He is a frequent invited speaker and teaches technology entrepreneurship seminars and workshops at universities around the world.

Prof. Broeng is a member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences and a Fellow of SPIE (the international society for optics and photonics) and has served on the committee of several international conferences. He was awarded the European Optics Prize in 1999 and DTU’s Innovation Award in 2016.
