The Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Center for Energy Resources Engineering (CERE), invites applicants for two PhD positions in the area of process modelling of CO2 conditioning – liquefaction and compression.”

The PhD projects are part of the “3D” project (DMX
TM Demonstration in Dunkirk) funded by Horizon 2020, the European Union’s research and innovation program. This H2020 project (Grant Agreement N° 838031) has a 19.2-million-euro budget over 4 years, including 14.7 million euros in European Union subsidies. Coordinated by IFPEN, the “3D” project brings together 10 other partners from research and industry from 6 European countries: ArcelorMittal, Axens, Total and its 1/3 party Greenflex, RWTH, DTU, ACP, CMI, Gassco, Brevik Engineering and Uetikon.

Responsibilities and tasks
The projects will involve process modelling and simulation of CO2 conditioning as part of the full CO2 value chain from capture to storage. You will consider CO2 liquefaction and compression. This is related to CO2 captured from the steel blast furnaces of Arcelor-Mittal in Dunkirk and then conditioned and prepared for transport to the North Sea cluster.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

A strong background in process engineering, process modelling, process simulation, thermodynamics, mathematical modelling, and computer programming experience is essential.

Approval and Enrolment

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
